Ser and estar conjugations

Ser or estar






SER
Yo soy = I am
Tú eres = you are
Él es = he is
Ella es = she is
Nosotros somos = we are
Vosotros sois = you are
Ellos son = they are
Ellas son = they are (female)

ESTAR
Yo estoy = i am
Tú estas = you are
Él está = he is
Ella está = she is
Nosotros estamos = we are
Vosotros estáis = you are
Ellos estan = they are
Ellas estan = they are ( female)


It is the verb TO BE in its two meanings.

In spanish the verb ESTAR is used to express state ( tired, bored, happy,...)and to say where you are ( i am at home..)

Yo estoy = I am
Estas = You are
Está = He/she/it is


Yo soy also means I AM but it comes from the verb (SER) which is also the verb (TO BE) but with another meaning , to describe faculties.

example:
I am tall = Yo soy alto ( ser)
You are clever= Tú eres listo ( ser)
